I hate running week four

Week four had me in a much better mindset. I was more motivated to go out and really push myself to make some improvements this week. I think the nice weather really helped influence this. The layout for this weeks runs were; 3 min run, 90 sec walk, 5 min run, 2.5 min walk, 3 min run, 90 sec walk, 5 min run.

This week had a focus on stamina and I saw that I was able to push myself to finish the five minute runs but then recover quickly to then do the three minute runs. My recovery time is definitely getting quicker and I have completely caught my breath before my next run begins. I took this as a mini win this week especially as I am an asthmatic.

Five minutes does seem like a really long time when you feel like you’re dying. Especially when the person on the treadmill next to you is running faster and for longer. I am slowly learning that I need to shut off and ignore anyone else running around me otherwise I get in this negative headspace about myself and my own progress.

This week I began incorporating some running drills into my warmup to help strengthen my ankles as I had been suffering with some early onset medial tibial stress syndrome aka shin splints. I think I am going to do a blog post all about my running warmup and what I am doing to help my running.

During this week there are lots of tips given to you in terms of breathing around stitches and running technique which I find highly motivating. Alongside this the app updated this week allowing me to choose the time of day I would like my run reminder to be at. This was really helpful in pushing me to run even when I didn’t want to.

I have found the perfect song to help me set pace. It’s Tina Turner’s Nutbush City. Not only does it make me feel badass the beat is just perfect for helping me pace myself during my runs so I will listen to this song two or three times during the thirty minute period.

Other than that I don’t have much to report oon week four. I’m finding that I still hate doing the run but feel proud afterwards.

Maybe I will start to like running……..
